The Test Kitchen’s ‘Light Room’ Tasting Menu with Iconic Wine

Cape Town, is host to numerous luxurious restaurants and The Test Kitchen, is arguably the leader of the pack. The luxurious restaurant is owned by British born chef Luke Dale-Roberts, whose reputation precedes him. Chef Dale-Roberts’ Light Room tasting menu, with his ‘iconic wine’ costs $250 (and costs $150 without the wine). This cuisine infuses the likes of springbok, beef sweetbread and pork belly; plus a sensational dill and berry Eton mess.

La Colombe’s Gourmand Menu (With wine)

La Colombe, is a luxurious restaurant located in Slivermist organic estate, Cape Town and it is famous for its Gourmand Menu. The restaurant’s Proprietor Scot Kirton, combines French and Asian cuisines with the best seasonal produce. The Gourmand Menu, which is a combination of experimental taste costs $190 with wine and $115 without it. When you try out the Gourmand Menu, you should look out for the smoked lamb tongue with mussels, aubergine and chorizo.

Pizza Dapietro: Pizza with Gold

There are so many things you can imagine yourself doing with $360, but one thought that surely won’t cross your mind is spending it on pizza. Yes, that’s right; a $360 pizza. L’antica Pizzeria Da Pietro, is an Italian restaurant in Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia and it is well known in the city as one of the best restaurants around. The L’antica Pizzeria Da Pietro, prides itself as the makers of Africa’s most expensive pizza. It is made with dough containing black garlic and charcoal topped with truffle cream, truffles, Di Bufala Campaigna Mozzarella, smoked duck breast, gold spray, edible 24 carat gold flakes and flower garnish. According to Ahmed Hergal, who is the restaurant’s founder, Pizza Dapietro is not for everyone. It is for those who would spend as much as possible for luxury and quality. The restaurant’s targets are people who do want to have luxury Italian taste without having to travel out of Tunisia; especially with COVID-19 restrictions making travelling harder. Obviously, the edible gold is the reason it costs so much and it should have a taste that matches the price.

The Royal Mansour ‘s Iktichaf Degustation

The city of Marakkech is a wonderful place to visit, but it would not be complete without checking out the La Grande Table Marocaine. Also known as The Royal Mansour, this hotel has its ‘Crown Jewel’ restaurant, which is one of the most luxurious restaurants in Africa. At the Royal Mansour, you should try out the special $600 ‘Iktichaf Degustation’ which features poached lobster, spicy snails and orange pearls.

The Burgundy’s Amaryllis
Price: $1000
Although it was a one-day dinner offer, The Burgundy r e s t a u r a n t in Abuja, N i g e r i a ’ s capital, offered a meal worthy of making the list if the most expensive cuisines in Africa. For Valentine’s Day of 2022, the luxury restaurant slammed a $1000 price on its couple’s dinner. This 12 course dinner was prepared by the experienced Chef Stone. He is the C.E.O of Nigeria’s number one culinary school, Red Dish chronicles, the C.E.O of the popular gourmet fast food business, Red Gourmet Kitchen in Abuja and Lagos; and of course the C.E.O/Head chef of The Burgundy Restaurant. While spending $1000 on a Valentine’s Day dinner with your partner might seem excessive, Chef Stone believes it is still affordable for a lot of people, despite the effects of economic crunch in Nigeria. He believes that there are people who spend more than $1000 on drinks in nightclubs; and these people should easily afford his luxurious dinner.
