IS BIG BROTHER NAIJA ALL-STARS WORTH THE FUSS?

IT WAS A SHOW STOPPER

The all-stars edition of Big Brother Naija (BBN), was one of the most gripping and explosive editions and came with engaging dramas, glamours and moments of unpredictability and surprises. These have become what viewers of the highly popular programme, come to anticipate and expect from the show. But the 8th edition of the show came with much more.

When you bring together 20 popular former housemates of the show, in the Big Brother house to compete for the highly coveted price of N120million, you should expect the unexpected.

OPENING WITH A BANG

The show kicked off with a big bang, and featured a lineup of carefully picked past participants whose identities were kept secret until the premiere. This kept the viewers in suspended anticipation, engaged and guessing who would make the list, and if their favourite past participants would be among.

Upon unveiling the selected stars at the premiere, it became obvious to viewers that those who made the list were some of the most dramatic characters of the previous seasons. This raised the stakes of the show and build viewers anticipation for what the all-stars house would be. Of course the participants hit the house with unpredictable drama to the delight of the viewers.

THE FINAL LIST

Participants that finally made the list include: Cee-C, Kiddwaya, Doyin, Frodd, Uriel, Pere, Princess, Soma, Angel, Neo, Alex, Seyi Awolowo, Ilebaye, Ike, Venita, Adekunle, Tolani Baj, Cross, Mercy Eke, and White Money.

Mercy Eke and White Money, were former winners of the show. Many fans believe that Mercy Eke, the first female winner of the season 4 edition of the show, who walked home with 60million, was expected to rekindle her affair with Ike during the show, as many believed that relationship dramas was one of her winning strategies.

NEW STRATEGIES

Old alliances and rivalries were ignited, as the BBN stars infuse their unique personalities and game strategies to the house, in a bid to clinch the highly coveted prize of N120million, the highest amount so far paid to a BBN winner. The highly charismatic Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, who has hosted several editions of the show, also anchored the all-stars edition and brought his usual charm, and unique interview style that keeps the housemates on their toes all through.

Biggie also revealed some unexpected and even shocking tricks for the show. The Jury, the Black Envelope Challenge, the Pardon Me Please Surprise, and the House Guest, become biggies new unanticipated aces, which contributed much in making the all-stars season a game changing one. Since these strategies were new, the housemates knew it wasn’t business as usual and had to re-strategize their games to improve their chances of winning.

CASH RAIN

Apart from the substantial cash prize, there were also additional prizes and rewards to be won throughout the show. The organizers introduced a unique opportunity for 30 lucky fans to win N1 million each, during the entire 70days of the show. This is a very good viewer’s engagement strategy and a testament to the show’s commitment to rewarding millions of its passionate viewers.

The element of conspiracy was also introduced, or rather allowed in the all-stars edition, which never happened in previous editions. Housemates discussed nominations and conspire on who to nominate for eviction. This led to change in strategies and alliances.

TENSON-SOAKED TASKS

The tasks were also carefully planned this season and these tasks tested housemates’ physical abilities, mental sharpness, and teamwork. These challenges built added excitement and competitiveness, and created intense moments throughout the show.

There was also the introduction of the Thursday Grill and Pool Party, which served as a most welcome period for the housemates to unwind and engage in fun activities to release built up tensions. The Saturday Night Rave became even livelier, and provided the housemates with a well-deserved club-like party, that helped them to unwind and chill down. The music from top DJs was pulsating, and the occasional performances from popular music stars electrified the house, sending the housemate on a heightened frenzy of exhilarating happiness, as they step on the dance floor to display various steps that were as interesting as they were hilarious. Indeed it always turned out to be drama-studded and fun-filled

The big brother house design and decor, was also top-notch as was the stimulating visual displays and stunning backdrops, which added to the appeal of the raging and intense drama in the big brother house.

Another aspect of the show that was very appealing, was the ingenious deployment of technology for live shows that left a wow effect, on the viewers and the live audiences.

The introduction of the Parrot as the 21st housemate, was another smart move. The parrot revealed discussions of the housemate, adding a strong element of humour, shock, surprise, confusions, and thereby adding seemingly intentional chaos into the Big brother All-Stars house.

Big Brother Naija All-Stars was proudly sponsored by top Fintech companies in Nigeria, and was won by Ilebaye who went home with N120million cash and a brand new SUV. This made her the winners of the biggest Big Brother prize money. Busola Tejumola, M u l t i C h o i c e Nigeria’s Executive head of content and West Africa Channels, revealed during the awards ceremony that it cost it’s company N5.5 billion, to put together the Big Brother All-Stars show. She also revealed that 1.5million votes were cast across all the show’s voting channels.

Big Brother Naija All-Stars certainly lived up to the hype, as it brought joy and thrill to millions of Nigerians and Africans who are fans of the show, leaving them with memorable, emotionally-charged and breath-taking entertainment
