I remember growing up and watching several movies depicting the history of the amazons, aptly called Amazon warriors. History describes them as a group of female warriors and hunters who had the strength and agility of men and could fight better than men. Then came the movie Wonder Women and the lead character played by Gal Gadot, and our fantasies was once again rekindled by the many wonders of the Amazon warriors.
There has been repeated researches by historical experts to prove if the amazon warriors is really a myth, or they actually existed. Well, that research is still ongoing and we leave that for the history books to prove the reality of it or not.
However, there have been some real depictions of amazons among the women globally. I mean, we literary find at least one amazon in one place of the other. My humble description of the modern day amazon, is a female who has dared to walk and conquer in places even men had feared to tread.
And we have many of them, from Queen Elizabeth of blessed memory, to Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to the iconic Coco Chanel, to the late Elizabeth Taylor, to legendary Madonna etc. Female amazons have existed in the past, in our time and will continue to exist till infinity.
It is amazing to see that women, continue to raise the ante, in fact a more recent feat was achieved by Nigeria’s Hilda Baci who broke the current Guinness World Record by cooking for 100hrs. Indeed, amazons will always keep sprouting up.
This edition is loaded with women who have achieved immense feats in the oil and gas industry. This effort is seemingly special and worthy of celebrating because few years ago, women were basically absent in the oil and gas sector. However, the tides have changed and we have women playing different roles in the industry and excelling at it.
This edition profiles some of these women and what their jobs and responsibilities are in the different oil and gas organizations. It also shows some of the philanthropic gestures they are involved in by virtue of their positions and influence.
