US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Ukraine’s decision to confront Russia, describing it as an ill-advised challenge against a much larger opponent.
“Russia is a powerful military nation. You know, whether people like it or not, it’s a powerful nation. It’s a much bigger nation,” Trump said.
He emphasized the size disparity by warning, “You don’t take on a nation that’s 10 times your size.”
Trump expressed a critical view of how the conflict escalated, stating, “It’s not a war that should have been started. You don’t do that.”
He also credited the United States’ military equipment as a crucial factor in supporting Ukraine, saying, “If it wasn’t for the greatest military equipment, we make the greatest military equipment in the world.
And we gave them, you know… they took probably a lot of money too.” The former president also used the interview to criticize current and past U.S. administrations.
He repeated his claim that the conflict “was started by Joe Biden” and accused former President Barack Obama of “giving Crimea away” in what he described as “one of the dumbest real estate deals.”
Trump’s comments reflect his ongoing contentious stance on U.S. involvement in Ukraine amidst Russia’s military advance.
His remarks come amid continued debate over the level of support America should provide to Ukraine and disagreements over the origins and handling of the conflict.
The interview added to the political discourse surrounding one of the most significant geopolitical conflicts in recent years, underscoring the differing perspectives on how to approach Russia and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
